Minco Rolls in 60-12 Win Over Watonga in Opener

With new coaches, a new quarterback and renewed enthusiasm, the Watonga football team took the field for their opener on Friday evening; all eyes were set on an upset over the #5 ranked Minco Bulldogs. Spirits were sky high for Watonga as they took the field; however, it certainly didn’t go like Watonga hoped it would, as things unraveled for Watonga quickly late in the first quarter. Minco won the game’s coin toss and elected to defer to the second half, thus Watonga was set to receive the game’s opening kick. On the first play from scrimmage the Eagles elected to go with a bit of trickery as they went for a hook-and-ladder to open the game. Minco was not caught off guard for the play as they had both the initial catch (Brason Gorman) and pitchman (Kyler Mathis) covered on the play. Gorman hesitated in pitching the ball to Mathis, seeing he was covered, and before he could secure the ball, he fumbled.
