For all of you fathers, I hope you had a
great Father’s Day this past Sunday. Being
a father is one of the most rewarding
accomplishments any man can achieve.
However, I want everyone to know that
being a father is more than just supplying
the sperm to make a baby. God gives the
major responsibility of the spiritual training
of the children to the father, not the mother.
Notice what Paul taught fathers in
Ephesians 6:4: “And you, fathers, do not
provoke your children to wrath, but bring
them up in the training and admonition of
the Lord.”
The LORD told Israel in Deuteronomy
6:4-7, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God,
the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD
your God with all your heart, with all your
soul, and with all your strength. And these
words which I command you today shall be
in your heart. You shall teach them diligently
to your children, and shall talk of them
when you sit in your house, when you walk
by the way, when you lie down, and when
you rise up.”
I wonder how many fathers read this little
article. I wonder how many fathers
attend church on a regular basis. I wonder
how many fathers read their Bible daily. I
wonder how many fathers take the time to
be with their children. Folks, we wonder
why our society is changing so much.
Maybe it’s because we fathers aren’t fulfilling
our duty to bring up our children in the
training and admonition of the Lord. How
many of us really believe in God and the
devil, heaven and hell? Folks, no one can
serve 2 masters. If you aren’t serving God,
you are serving the devil?
