The Corona virus case numbers in Blaine County are trying to buck the trend statewide and nationally. As of Aug. 4, there were no new positive cases in the county, but there were three cases now considered recovered.

This leaves two active cases in Geary; one in Greenfield; one in Hitchcock, two in Okeene and three in Watonga. These numbers are provided by Blaine County Emergency Management.

Thus far, there have been 38 cases in the county. Twenty-nine are now considered recovered and there have been no deaths. This puts Blaine County in the ‘Orange’ or moderate risk category. Those guidelines suggest wearing a mask in public, social distancing, breaking meetings into smaller groups and staying home if symptoms appear. Statewide numbers tell a different story.

There have been 39,463 cases confirmed, up 816 from yesterday’s report. The death toll is up 15 since yesterday’s report, bringing that total to 566. Recovered cases are at 32,319, and active cases rest at 6,578, down by 309 from yesterday.

Nationally there have been 4,713,540 confirmed cases of the Covid-19 virus, up 45,585 from the previous report. There have been 155,402 deaths, up 542 from the day previous. This leaves 2,262,274 active cases, up 22,565 from the day before, while recoveries come in at 1,513,446, up by 44,757 from the day before. These numbers are from Johns Hopkins University.
