In a 2020 college football season that already has much uncertainty around it with the coronavirus pandemic, it was officially announced that the Sept. 26 game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners and the Army Black Knights will be canceled.

An announcement was made by the Army West Point athletic department on Tuesday afternoon in wake of the Big 12 Conference’s decision to limit its member schools to just one non-conference game that must be played at home.

"We are disappointed to lose Oklahoma from our schedule this season, however, we respect the Big 12's difficult decision," said Army Director of Athletics Mike Buddie in a statement. "I am saddened for our players, coaches, alumni, and fans to miss out on what has been such a highly anticipated contest since it was first announced. Given the rapidly changing environment in college athletics, we've been working on numerous contingency plans in the event of decisions like this, and have already begun the process of finding a future date to host the Sooners."

This comes after the Southeastern Conference (SEC) canceled all nonconference games during the 2020 season, which took the Sooners’ home game on Sept. 12 at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium with the Tennessee Volunteers off the schedule.

The Sooners’ lone remaining non-conference game will be at home on Aug. 29 vs. an FCS opponent with Missouri State University.

Oklahoma’s remaining 2020 football schedule is as follows: Oct. 3 at home vs. Baylor University, the Red River Showdown on Oct. 10 in Dallas vs. the University of Texas, Oct. 17 on the road at Iowa State University, Oct. 24 at home vs. Oklahoma State University for the 2020 Bedlam Series, Oct. 31 on the road at Texas Christian University, Nov. 7 on the road at West Virginia University, Nov. 14 at home vs. Kansas State University, Nov. 21 at home vs. the University of Kansas for Senior Night, and the Nov. 28 regular-season finale on the road against Texas Tech University.
