It was announced late last week that Watonga High School junior standout offensive back Joe Jackson was selected to the Class A Preseason All-Vype Football Team as an honorable athlete.

Jackson, who was a star running back and outstanding defensive back last season as a sophomore for the Eagles, is expected to lead Watonga’s runheavy offense and be worked in at quarterback this upcoming 2020 season.

Barring any further COVID-19 setbacks, Watonga is scheduled to open its 2020 campaign on Friday, Aug. 28 at home against the Thomas High School Terriers.

Selected to the Class A All-Vype Preseason Team on offense were Pawhuska senior quarterback Bryce Drummond, Pawnee senior running back Trevor Mitchell, Mangum senior running back Quan Bailey, Pawhuska junior wide receiver Mason Gilkey, Canadian senior wide receiver Jake Brewster, Wynnewood senior tight end Zack Ray, Hinton junior offensive lineman Kase Boling, Minco senior offensive lineman Aidan Howry, Carnegie senior offensive lineman Paris Holmes, Boone-Apache senior offensive lineman Avery Scammahorn, and Okemah senior offensive lineman J.J. Magness.

On defense, selected to the Class A All-Vype Preseason Team were Hinton junior linebacker Seth Spady, Cashion senior linebacker Caden Harrell, Rush Springs senior linebacker Kade Worden, Central Sallisaw junior linebacker Triston Barker, Thomas senior defensive lineman Aden Kelley, Oklahoma Union junior defensive lineman Clay Gilmore, Hooker senior defensive lineman Dillon Metcalf, Wyandotte senior defensive back Talon Powers, Elmore City-Pernell defensive back Reece Conner, Pawhuska senior defensive back Cody Starr, and Hominy junior defensive back Gideon Goodeagle.

In addition to Jackson, selected as honorable athletes on the 2020 Class A All-Vype Preseason Team were Konawa senior Silas Isaacs, Chouteau-Mazie senior Dylan Lunsford, Wewoka senior Kobey Stephens, Fairview sophomore Blake Perez, Boone-Apache junior Mason McDaniel, Ringling senior Kash Lyle, Texhoma senior Trent Mitchell, and Stratford senior Tate Schwerdtfeger.
