Blaine County 4-H was well represented at the Northwest District Food Show Down and Cupcake wars that was held recently in Fairview. The 4-H members were selected to represent Blaine County at District by competing in the Blaine County Food Show Down and Cup Cake Wars. 4-H Food Showdown is a youth culinary challenge where two/ three member teams compete to create a dish while demonstrating their knowledge in foods and nutrition, kitchen safety, equipment and creativity in food preparation. 4-H Food Showdown teams create their dish using only a clue, provided secret ingredients and items from the common pantry. From the secret ingredients, 4-H members must identify, prepare and then present information related to the serving size, nutritional value and cost of the dish. It is a great contest to teach 4-H members on decision making, working together as well as kitchen skills.
Completing in the Food Show Down were Junior Team Members: Baylea Robison, Jayce Schultz, and Logan Chance. Blaine County had two teams in the intermediate division: Avery Fisher, MaKienze Morrison made up one team and Jack Luckie and Grant Robison made up the other team.
In the Cup Cake Wars, the team had to bring three naked cupcakes, and their decorations. The team of Avery Fisher, MaKienze Morrison and Grant Robison placed 3rd place with their created display of cute pig and corn feed sweet corn meal cupcake. Once their cupcakes were decorated, they presented a presentation on their theme, steps in preparation, food safety, and displays.
