Before the Friday and Saturday festivities, this year’s Watonga Cheese Festival will begin on Thursday, Oct. 7, at Centennial Park on Main Street.
Watonga Mayor Bill Seitter will open his first Cheese Festival in that position, with the ceremonial “Cutting of the Cheese” – a horn of Watonga Cheese, that is. The grand opening ceremony begins at 6 p.m. After the cheese-cutting,
After the cheese-cutting, attendees can participate in a “Cheeziest T-shirt” contest. Wear your cheesiest – some would say tackiest – T-shirt and win a prize.
The “Cutest Dog” contest will feature good doggos in cheesy, or just generally cute, costumes. The top dog will also win a prize! The winner of this year’s
The winner of this year’s Poster Contest will be announced during the opening ceremonies as well, with judging and awards by Karen Gilliland. After Thursday, the posters will be displayed at First Baptist Church of Watonga.
Kiddos can enjoy a petting zoo, “touch the truck,” and pictures with Cheezy, the Cheese Festival’s official mascot, throughout the ceremony. The A-Z Petting Zoo will be set up on the grass just west of the Centennial Park stage and will feature exotic animals that aren’t found at the average petting zoo!
So join the Watonga Chamber and festival organizers on Thursday night to kick off Watonga’s first Cheese Festival since 2019!
