The Blaine County OSU Extension offices are offering barn quilt workshops on Tuesday, April 30 in the Foley Building at the Blaine County Fairgrounds in Watonga. These workshops will begin at 10 a.m. for anyone that would like to create their own barn quilt.

Barn quilts are quilt squares painted on plywood. They were originally created to adorn barns but can be hung on other outbuildings, fences or even homes. The history of barn quilts originated in 1989 in Adams County, Ohio and have since spread across many states. Several states have created barn quilt trails that people can travel to and see beautiful country scenery as well. Northwest Oklahoma has a trail of our own. These projects celebrate the art and history of quilting, and showcase the uniqueness of the creator and the barn or building they are hung on as well as boost the economy from people traveling to view them.

For this workshop, 2’ x 2’ barn quilts will be created. The fee is $45 and covers all supplies needed. Patterns will be provided, or participants may bring their own. Lunch will also be provided. Those interested in participating in the Watonga workshop should register and pay by April 23.
