Butler was raised in Hinton and graduated from Lookeba-Sickles before entering the energy business at wind farms and oil wells. In 2019, Butler and his wife started Struck Rock Oil and Gas, which he operates from his home near Fay.

“I come from a common working-class background,” Butler explained, “and believe that our governments have lost the good faith of the people of Oklahoma, and we need a serious return to quality and good representation.”

Butler said his faith is central to his life. He became a born-again Christian at age 22, he said, and has since “had the privilege of preaching in several of the churches in the surrounding communities.”

Butler listed a few key beliefs that inspired his run for state Senate:

• “The individual states have too often unconditionally submitted to unconstitutional federal actions.

• “Our political leaders have forsaken transparent and equal representation.

• “We have held to a practical adherence to the idea of separation of church and state.”

Butler believes that states should reassert their authority by ignoring federal laws that fall outside the scope of the Constitution. He also believes that Oklahoma’s legislative leaders, like the Senate President and House Speaker, have too much power to determine what bills will be heard and “need to be stripped of their unbalanced and unfair authority.”

“Until this happens equal representation in Oklahoma will never be a reality,” Butler said, “and the will of the people will constantly be thwarted.”

In short, Butler advocates for an overtly religious and small-government approach. “I have no problem saying that if you are mostly content with your governments, then I am probably not the candidate for you,” Butler said. “I would like to see broad and sweeping reforms to how we do government in Oklahoma.”
