Canton Man Charged With Possession of Child Porn

According to a probable cause affidavit issued by the Blaine County District Attorney’s office, Nathaniel Reyes, 22, of Canton was taken into custody February 16.

He is charged with aggravated possession of child pornography, a felony, and possession of obscene material, also a felony. The second charge is in relation to child pornography on a cell phone.

The interest in Reyes began with a tip to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation via Cybertips.

David Duggan, a Blaine County Sheriff’s Deputy is part of the Internet Crimes Against Children task force, part of OSBI. The tip referral came to Duggan. He followed the case which originated through a social media messaging app. The parent company of the app sent along the file it perceived as child porn and the IP address of the computer user. The file contained obscene sexual explicit images of a naked child between 7-10 years old.

The sheriff’s office determined who the owner of the IP address was and in mid-January served a search warrant. The home was visited and the case began to focus on Reyes, one of the residents. The other residents were not involved in the case.

Law enforcement seized three cell phones and a laptop computer. They were sent to the Oklahoma Office of the Attorney General for digital forensic download.

One cell phone was found to hold 10 videos and two images of apparent child pornography. A second cell phone held three videos and more than 200 images of apparent child pornography and more than 70 files of questionable child pornography. One file was on two of the phones.

Reyes stated the cell phones were his and gave investigators the passcode for one of the phones. The other items that were seized were located in Reyes’ bedroom.

He was arrested and charged with possession of child porn, aggravated possession of child porn, distribution of child porn and violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.

Reyes remains in Blaine County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail.

If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison and up to $25,000 fine.
