The federal government announced this week that Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, will be a holiday.

The executive signed by President Donald Trump states that “all executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed and their employees excused from duty, on Thursday, Dec. 24, the day before Christmas.”

The executive order does leave a little wiggle room for certain federal offices to remain open.

“The heads of departments or agencies may determine certain offices and installations of their organizations, or parts thereof, must remain open and certain employees must report for duty on Dec. 24, for reason of national security, defense or other public need,” the order stated.

It is not yet known as of press time what effect this order will have on local federal offices or the postal service.
