The Watonga Community Cat Foundation was busy Sept. 7, when the mobile clinic from the Oklahoma Humane Society came to town. The pet pros from the Humane Society were there to spay and neuter community cats – those that nobody owns, but many residents feed.

According to April Woodruff, the cats are either caught – if they are relatively tame – or trapped if they are fully feral. Then they are spayed or neutered, given vaccinations, have an ear tip notched and released back into the area where they were trapped or caught. The program is sponsored by area businesses and the cat foundation. The Humane Society offers a reduced price for the shots and surgeries. Some 40 cats were altered during this session. Since its beginning in 2020, the group has spayed or neutered more than 150 cats. It has found homes for more than 325 cats and kittens.

Sponsors include McCrary Veterinary Hospital, First State Bank, Watonga Abstract, Wheeler Bros., Mary Lee Jones-State Farm, Larena Casey, Attorney, Gary and Rhonda Olsen, Alvin and Anita Woodruff, Rex and Bonnie Kraft, Lou Rother, Loren and Bethany Parham, Lauren Defries, Josh Cox, April Woodruff and Fern, the Tuesday Night Bridge Ladies, American Legion and Cathey’s Café.

Woodruff noted that the organization is always in need of volunteers, volunteer drivers, sponsors and donations.
