Over the last two years, all U.S. school children were provided free school meals, thanks to the Universal School Meals Program Act that Congress approved as part of the country’s COVID relief efforts. Unfortunately, the national program will not be continued this school year. This will mean that students who do not qualify for free and reduced will have to pay. Watonga Public School will try to ease the burden by providing free breakfast. However, there will be a fee for lunch for those who do not qualify.

Please know Watonga Public Schools is committed to ensuring all qualifying students continue to receive free- or reduced-priced meals. You can learn more about the federal program’s income eligibility guidelines here: https://www.watongapublicschools. com/349019_ 2 All families are encouraged to complete the freeand reduced-meal application. Applications were included in your child's enrollment packet but can also be found at https:// www. watongapublicschools. com/349019_ 2.

Participation in the program supports not only individual students and families but also impacts schoolwide funding for technology, instructional support, and other student services. We hope you will apply!

Only one application is needed per family for children who attend Watonga Public Schools. Meal fees cannot be waived or reduced unless a student’s family meets the income requirements AND submits an approved application. (If you received a letter notifying you that your family qualified through direct certification, it is not necessary to complete the form.)

Watonga Public Schools strives to provide students with nutritious, quality meals throughout the school year. As a reminder, the following will be charged to students who do not participate in the free- or reducedpriced meal program: Breakfast (PK-12) – FREE!

Lunch (PK-12) – $3.50 Information about how to pay for school lunches online will be sent home with your student.

If you have any questions about the district’s child nutrition program, please contact Christie Brewer in Child Nutrition at 580-623-7361 or cbrewer@watonga. k12.ok.us. Sincerely, Kyle Hilterbran Superintendent, Watonga Public Schools
