WATONGA — The Oklahoma high school sports publication Vype is currently running preseason polls to determine the best players at every position in each area of the state, and the Watonga Eagles have been well-represented.

Currently, there are active polls to determine the best linebacker and defensive back in the area. Eagles senior star Joe Jackson is in the hunt for best linebacker, while senior Deondre Dunn is vying for the defensive back honors.

Eagles fans can easily find the polls by visiting nwok.vypeok.com/category/enid. The linebacker poll closes on July 16, and the defensive backs poll closes on July 20.

Earlier this month, Leyton Parker of Pioneer-Pleasant Vale was named the area’s top unning back, garnering just over 50% of the 20,880 votes cast. Garber’s David Nagel ran away with the wide receiver/tight end vote, at 49%, and Bodie Boydstun of the Oklahoma Bible Academy won a close race over Pioneer-Pleasant Vale’s Caden Humphries to be voted the preseason quarterback of the year.

Watonga’s Jackson was named last year to the Class A Preseason All-Vype football team as an athlete.

In the linebacker poll, Jackson is competing with Kingfisher’s Slade Snodgrass; Okeene’s William Karbs; Enid’s Carlos Alverado; and Derrek Daugherty of Covingto-Douglas. Dunn’s competitors include Brody Jinkens of Okeene, Ricky Woodruff of Waukomis, Cashion’s Gavin Phippen, and Enid’s Alex Macias.

There is also a write-in option available on all polls.

Poll winners will be selected to the Fan’s Choice All-Hub Team.
