There was a couple from OKC and a lady that was doing some work at the court house in for a visit this week. The lady was in on her lunch hour and ran out of time but said she would like to come back again when she is in town working. The gentleman ask for a copy of the information about the Oklahoma song that was written using the organ the Enlow family donated.

Clay and Anthony have the front columns all up and the front porch ready to be begin painting. Clay and his wife Jana were also out this week working on the flower beds and weeding along the south fence. He and his helpers are working hard to get it looking nice for the Cheese Festival. A big thank you to all that Clay, Anthony, Jana, and Sandra have done. The flower beds and the front of the museum is looking better than it has in a long time.

We have letters that fell from the attic when the plaster was removed from the ceiling. Mr. Ferguson contemplated running for governor of Oklahoma in 1910. These letters are in answer to his form letter.

A paragraph in the first issue of The Watonga Republican October 12, 1892, describes how T. B. Ferguson felt about political party policies. “We will in business matters endeavor to give our readers a paper which can be read and appreciated by all. In politics the paper will be uncompromisingly and aggressively Republican. We make but one promise and that is that the politics of the paper will never be questioned. We support the Republican party because it is the party of progress, truth and immortal history, the party of bravery, patriotism and justice.” This information is from the book Mrs. Ferguson wrote “They Carried the Torch.” The Watonga Republican was one of the first papers established in western Oklahoma and was credited with being one of the state’s best weekly papers. It won many prizes in State newspaper contests in the past and also currently. He continued sending his editorials back for the paper while he was Territorial Governor but with mail being as it was they didn’t always make it back in time before publication so Mrs. Ferguson would write one. She never gave it a thought that most women wouldn’t be able to do so.

We will be open during the Cheese Festival the regular times 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Of course if we have visitors we will stay open later.

Anyone that would like to become a member of the Friends of Ferguson is welcome. You will be helping a worthwhile cause. We have one business meeting a month. You can help with any project you are interested in or none at all. Maybe you can give suggestions. One of our new members came and helped work in the flower beds before deciding to become a member. Thank you Sandra.

Our hours are Wednesday thru Saturday 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. We are always glad to open at other times for people having company or special events.
