Filing Completed for June 30 Races

No decision has been reached just yet about how the June 30 election will be held so that voters can cast their ballots while staying safe from spreading the Covid-19 virus. There has been talk of an all absentee ballot vote, but that remains to be seen.

What is certain is there are some races that are contested on the county level, as well as for school boards and state representative.

In Blaine County, there is a three-way race for sheriff. Incumbent Republican Tony Almaguer will face Democrat challenger Brian Johnson and fellow Republican Travis Daugherty.

Brandon Shultz is unopposed for the county commission seat #2 he currently fills.

Two Republicans, incumbent Jennifer Haigler and challenger Kristi Campos are seeking the county clerk’s office, as is Independent Tracy Walker. Christy Matli is running unopposed for the court clerk office she currently holds.

Voters will also have to decide school board races in Geary and Ames since the April 7 election for those offices was canceled and rescheduled. In Geary, sitting school board member Randall Base will be challenged by Cecil Harrall.

Oklahoma District 57, which includes parts of Beckham, Blaine, Caddo, Canadian and Custer counties, will see Juan Garcia, a Democrat, vie off against Republican Anthony Moore, both of Clinton. The seat has been held by Harold Wright of Weatherford, who is term limited.

District 59 including parts of Blaine, Canadian, Dewey, Kingfisher and Woodward counties, sees Republicans Mike Dobrinksi of Okeene facing Adam Masters of Kingfisher. They are seeking the seat currently held by Rep. Mike Sanders, who is also term limited.

The winners of the district races for state representative will take local concerns and issues to the Legislature in Oklahoma City.
