A probable cause affidavit filed in Blaine County court lodges child sexual abuse charges against Steve Edwards of Geary.

The expected charges include looking at, touch, mauls or feel(ing) the body part of a child under 16 in a lewd or lascivious manner when the accused is more than three years older than the victim; also first degree rape by instrumentation on a person under 14 years of age; and show, exhibit, loan or distribute obscene material or child pornography to a minor for the purpose of inducing the minor to participate in obscene acts.

According to the investigator’s notes, an 8-year-old child was interviewed in September in Kentucky by a forensic interviewer. The child had told a therapist they had been sexually abused by the accused. The child alleged Edwards had touched his private parts to their private parts and later he had placed his fingers inside their body. The child identified Edwards not only from their relationship as family members but also because he had long fingernails that hurt them.

The child also stated people on the television in Edwards’ bedroom were involved in what they described as ‘sexing.’

For his part, Edwards, when interviewed in October, denied the allegations to a Blaine County deputy and investigator Briston Lowry. He was arrested and a cell phone was seized.

His bond was set at $50,000 and he was ordered not to have contact with any minors. His bond was later adjusted to $100,000.

The case has been continued since Edwards first made a court appearance in November, and his next appearance is set for April 11.
