A Lamp to My Feet

Today, we are once again looking at the list of seven things the LORD hates found in Proverbs 6:16-19, “There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.”

Now, we come to the 4th thing that is an abomination to God: “a heart that devises wicked plans.” This describes a heart that is devoted to evil. They plan to do evil. Later in the book, in Proverbs 24:1-2, Solomon writes, “Be not envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them, for their hearts devise violence, and their lips talk of trouble.”

The people described here are like those during the days of Noah. Genesis 6:5-6, “The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.” These people are always planning to take advantage of others by whatever means they can think of. They thrive on violence, excitement, and trickery. They are like Satan himself. They are crafty. They are wolves in sheep’s clothing. They disguise themselves as angels of light. They don’t care who they hurt as long as they get what they want. Do you know anyone like this?
