A Lamp to My Feet

This week we take another look at the book of Daniel. This time in Daniel 2. You need to read the whole chapter. Nebuchadnezzar has a dream that he can’t remember. He also wants this dream interpreted. When his wise men can’t do this he orders that all of them be killed. Daniel steps up and says that his God is able to do so.

Daniel and his friends pray to God who reveals the dream and its interpretation to Daniel. He then goes in to reveal the dream and its interpretation to Nebuchadnezzar. In his dream, he saw a great image. Its head was of fine gold; its chest and arms of silver; its middle and thighs of bronze; its legs of iron; and its feet partly of iron mixed with clay. A stone cut out by no human hands struck the image on its feet and crumbled the image.

The meaning of the dream is it shows 5 kingdoms. The head of gold represents the Babylonians, the chest and arms of silver is the MedoPersian Kingdom, the middle and thighs of bronze is the kingdom of Alexander the Great, the legs of iron with feet mixed with iron and clay is the Roman kingdom. The stone cut out by no human hands is the kingdom of God, the church which would be established during the Roman kingdom and never end.

Matthew 16:1520, “Jesus said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon BarJonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
