A Lamp to My Feet

I have no idea how many read this little column, but I hope I have given you some things that are helping you in your efforts to draw closer to God and let Him be the Lord of your life.

Today, I want to mention something that makes the church so much different from institutions developed and controlled by man. The head of the church is Christ. During this time of a pandemic, I think some of us have given in to the control of man without taking the time to think about the wishes of our Savior.

We must stand on the saying of Peter and the rest of the apostles in Acts 5:29, “We must obey God rather than any human authority.” Churches closed their doors and obeyed man because there is a chance of the disease spreading. We allowed the fear of illness and death to close our doors to those that want to worship God. Notice what Hebrews 10:23-27 says, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.”

We allowed Satan to close our doors when we would have fought to keep them open if someone forcefully tried to keep us from meeting together. In Matthew 10:28 Jesus said, “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
