Meet The Candidates For Sheriff

Travis Daugherty is a candidate for Blaine County Sheriff. He has been the sheriff for the last four years. He is a graduate of Watonga High School and has been a peace officer for most of the years since then.

He entered law enforcement because his grandfather and his mother were both officers. “Law enforcement is in my blood,” he said. “When I worked in other counties, they just weren’t home, and I wasn’t helping people I needed to be helping. The people of Blaine County are part of who I am.”

In his term, Daugherty said he has made more than 250 felony convictions and increase of over 33% and established an investigative division that focuses on sex crimes and child abuse. The jail has also started an inmate mental health program to increase chances the detainee will not reoffend once released.

Another accomplishment Daugherty is proud of is improving the capability of the body and car cameras used by deputies. He said he has also established a school resource office for the county.

Daugherty said his goal in a second term, if elected, will be to keep the pressure on drug traffickers in the county and present a unified front against them with police officers employed by the towns around the county. Deputies and other employees are now rewarded financially if they seek additional training that leads to better outcomes for citizens.

He also points to the 91-1 dispatch as an improvement that decreases response times, getting assistance to callers faster than the old system of calling the office directly.
