Revolving Grandsons

After nearly a week with grandsons visiting, I’m shot. Not that I had much to begin with but I need to hang on to what I have left. Don't get me wrong; I love the little fellows. They keep me on my toes the whole time staying at Nana and Papa's House of Entertainment. I'm lucky these days if I win the games I taught them. Anyway, three of our grandsons came to spend the night with us. It was 'game on' as soon as they hit the door.

As soon as they break the threshold they start looking for snacks I have managed to restock since the last visit. Growing boys are always hungry so I try to keep plenty of refreshments on hand. The boys always feel the need to make themselves 'togo' sacks. No wonder I can't keep the pantry stocked.

Those three went home on Saturday and two more took their place. Thank goodness they left on Monday. We needed the rest.

We have one grandson who's always ready with meal ideas, sometimes even as we're eating. This weekend he suggested tacos for supper. Since I needed to make a big box store run for cereal anyway I said okay. It was about seven below outside with a stiff wind so we bundled up, and off we went. They dropped me off at the door and waited in the nice warm car while I fought the crowds to fill my list..

Why is it when I’m in a hurry everyone insists on being in my way? I valiantly fought the throng, snatched the items, and scanned them on my phone, and just as I got to the checkout and scanned the icon to pay David called to see if I was done yet. I let him know I was heading to the door and braced myself for the cold. I jumped into the car and left David to load the groceries.

As soon as we got home I rushed in to get the fireplace on. I'm so grateful for our remote-controlled gas fireplace. No wood logs, no smoke, no ashes, just nice warmth.

After we'd put the groceries away and settled into our comfy chairs to thaw out, our little menu planner had the nerve to look at me and say, 'I know what we can have for dinner; make our own pizzas!' I try to keep the fixings on hand for this, but I didn't have any this time.

“We just got home with the stuff to make tacos, remember?' I said, a little exasperated.

'Oh, yeah,' he said, giving me a sly grin.

Before bedtime I know I'll hear from him with his next meal idea. He's always thinking ahead when it comes to food.

They're a curious bunch, too, always asking me questions. Ethan asked me if Papa shook my hand when we got married. Eli asked how old his dad was (our son, our baby) when Papa and I got married. I grinned and asked, 'What are you implying?' This brought about the discussion of when we met, how we met, how old were we went we met, how old were we went we got married, and the like. Those boys are an endless source of entertainment.
