Watonga High School senior Kelsi Scheihing has been named as the recipient of the 2024 Doris Lewis Cupp Family Memorial Scholarship. With an overall 4.0 GPA, Scheihing is the valedictorian of this year’s WHS graduating class. She will receive a $3,000 scholarship award to support her first year of studies at Oklahoma State University, where she plans to pursue a degree in Agriculture Education.
At WHS, Kelsi participated in several extra-curricular activities including FFA, band, and student council. Based on her academic achievement, she was selected for membership in both the National Honor Society and the Oklahoma Honor Society.
Maggie High is the recipient of a special $1,000 “Legacy” Scholarship for 2024, in recognition of her achievements at WHS and acknowledging that she is the last child or grandchild of Doris Cupp to graduate from Watonga. Maggie plans to attend Oklahoma City Community College where she plans to focus her studies on a career in the cinema and film industry.
The Doris Lewis Cupp Family Memorial Scholarship was created by the children of Doris Cupp to honor their mother, a lifelong educator who taught at Watonga High School from 1979-1993. Each of the Cupp children graduated from WHS: Carri (1981), Dondi (1983), Kimbri (1987), Terry (1988), and Kelli and Sean (1991). Each year, the Doris Lewis Cupp Family Memorial Scholarship will recognize one or more graduating seniors who have excelled in a wide range of academic and extracurricular activities at Watonga High School.
