Schools to Offer Meals to Students

When the State Department of Education mandated schools across Oklahoma shut down until April 6, one of the biggest questions was how to make sure children would still have access to nutritious food.

The situation has been re solved, according to Watonga Superintendent Mark Batt, by using a footprint developed for summer feeding programs at the schools.

The schools are offering a grab-and-go lunch for students via a drive through pickup at the middle school entrance. It will take place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. beginning March 23 and running each weekday until school resumes.

Meals are free to all children less than 18 years old.

The staff and administration at Watonga are working with state leadership to stay ahead of the crisis and addressing developments as the happen.

“As our understanding of the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic changes rapidly, it’s important for our community to remain calm and continue to practice preventative measures such as good hand hygiene, staying home when sick, avoiding large crowds and social dis tancing,” Batt said.

“The health of our students and staff continues to be our number one priority. Thank you for your help in keeping our community healthy and safe. We will update information as it becomes available.” Batt said the updates will be posted on the school’s social media pages.
