Senior News Center & Resource Guide

Cooler temperatures and much needed rain have arrived. It makes those 100-degree days seem months ago, instead of a few weeks ago! I hated to do it but I had to turn on the heat in my home. It sure felt good! This cooler weather makes you want some comforting, warm meals, and we have them at the Watonga Senior Citizens Center each weekday. You will receive a meat dish, potatoes and gravy, vegetable, salad, homemade roll and dessert, with a drink for $8. That is a bargain. Plus, you won’t have to do any cooking or washing up. Our menu is as follows:

Thursday, October 22 Mexican Casserole Friday, October 23 Ham and Sweet Potatoes Monday, October 26 Vegetable Soup or Chili Tuesday, October 27 Pork Sandwich and Chips Wednesday, October 28 Steak Fingers (Kiwanis Meets) Thursday, October 29 Chicken Casserole Friday, October 30 Roast Pork (Birthday Dinner)

We eat each day, except Wednesday, from 11 am to 12:30 pm. Wednesday meal time is 11 am to 12 noon. Call us at 580-6234511 any morning before 10 am for home delivery. If you are a paid member of the Center (annual dues of $15) and your birthday is in October, you will receive a FREE meal on Friday, October 30, our birthday dinner day.

Our meals were delivered last week by: Teresa Bryan, Lisa Nelson, Brenda Stein, Janice Hood and Vernon Brickman. We are very grateful for their willingness to help us by delivering meals to our home-bound.

Our quilters this week were Louise Cooper and Estalene Teply. They are doing a beautiful job on the quilt in the rack. If you come by the Center, stop and look (but don’t touch) their work.

On Saturday night, October 24, we will have our Fun and Games night. Come join the Saturday Night Gang from 6 pm to 9 pm for puzzles, cards, dominoes, pool and live music. This is really a fun time!

Halloween is coming up on October 31 and kids will be out in costumes looking for treats. There will be Trunk or Treat at Huff-Lorang Park on Saturday and a Halloween Bash at Roman Nose State Park Friday and Saturday. Plenty of activities for the entire family are available.

Knock, knock. Who’s there? Wanda. Wanda who? Wanda go out trick or treating with me?

Knock, knock. Who’s there? Witch! Witch who? Witch one of you will give me lots of Halloween candy?

Happy Halloween from the Watonga Senior Citizens Center! Boo!
