USG Donates to Opportunities, Inc.

WATONGA — The Give Local Program is administered through the USG Foundation. USG has plants across the United States which operate in diverse communities – full of parents, children, young adults, veterans, and others, all with different life stories. Like any community, they have hardship and adversity … but also heartfelt generosity. At USG, we have generous employees who want to help those in need within their community. We want to support that compassion. The USG Foundation encourages each plant to choose and submit a local charity that would benefit from an annual $5,000 grant. The program has been in place for 4 years.

At Southard, selecting the grant recipient is a collaborative effort that is overseen by the plant engagement team. This year, it was awarded to Opportunities, Inc. which as a 501c(3) nonp r o f i t Community Action Agency headquartered in Watonga, Oklahoma. The organization seeks to remove obstacles and solve problems which inhibit the ability of low-income families to attain self-sufficiency. Funded by government grants and donations from the surrounding communities, Opportunities, Inc. offers a variety of programs and services that fit the needs of the low-income and povertystricken individuals and families that live within the 13 counties under their jurisdiction.
