Watonga CTTC Students Watonga in Automotive Contest

Watonga home-school student Gannon Grubs and Watonga High School student Brandon Wiggins were among four Chisholm Trail Technology Center students competing Feb. 14 at the division SkillsUSA automotive service technology contest in Fairview representing Chisholm Trail Technology Center.

Grubs, Wiggins and fellow CTTC automotive students Kaden Mueggenborg of Kingfisher and Kevin Suarez of Hennessey earned the right to compete by winning their local contest. At the Fairview event, they competed against other local winners from Enid, Alva, Fairview, Woodward and Ponca City tech centers.

Mueggenborg placed first in the high school category and Suarez placed third in the adult category and will represent CTTC in the state contest in April, where they will compete against students representing tech centers from across the state.

Grubs narrowly missed advancing to state by placing fourth in the high school category, earning a ribbon and automotive tools.

The students were accompanied by their instructor Coty Green, who is in his second year on the CTTC faculty.

"I'm proud of the hard work all my students put in," Green said. "I know there's a lot of value in these competitions that SkillsUSA puts on."

SkillsUSA is a partnership of teachers, students and industry focused on preparing future workers for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations to ensure America has a skilled workforce.
