WATONGA – During a sleepy Labor Day morning in Watonga, a special visitor arrived in town in the bed of a pickup truck.

Bearsun, a costumed figure who's walking from Los Angeles to New York to raise money for charity, stopped at Domino while riding in Alan Fletcher's Cheyenne and Arapaho Emergency Management vehicle. Bearsun was on the way to Alva, he said, where he set off on foot again, but on Sunday night he participated in a Cheyenne and Arapaho powwow in Canton, where the locals wished him luck during his long journey.

Bearsun and Fletcher were greeted by Larry Roman Nose in the Domino parking lot.

Bearsun's walk is designed to raise awareness for cancer, mental health, autism, the environment and the disabled community. His supporters are donating to charities associated with each cause; so far, Bearsun has raised more than $13,000 of his $15,000 goal on his GoFundMe, which can be found on the site by searching "The Walk From LA-NYC for Cancer."

A link to the GoFundMe and more information about Bearsun is also available at iambearsun.com.

According to The Associated Press, Bearsun was created by 33-year-old California man Jessy Larios, whose walk has garnered particular support from Native American communities across the route.
