SENIOR CENTER NEWS

Hi everyone! Its been a good week for me. I hope it has been for you too! My daughter and I made a overnight trip to Tulsa to take in a concert by Hank Williams Jr. at the Hard Rock Casino. It was so fun watching the people’s reaction to his music. Just listening to him and his band. But I sure felt old when he sang some of his daddy’s songs and I remembered the lyrics. It was a great show. We got to have dinner with my granddaughter, Alyssa, and her husband, Boone. We had a great time with them. On the way to Tulsa we stopped in OKC and had lunch with my other granddaughter, Christina. It was so good to see her again. She’s a fun girl. We had some donations last week. Howard Hursh brought in some fresh eggs. We sure thank you Howard. We can always use eggs. Richard and Sandra Hightower made a monetary donation and we sure appreciate it. Thank you Richard and Sandra. We received a wonderful donation from the local Masons from their help with our turkey and dressing fundraiser during the cheese festival. We really appreciate all the help they give us. They’re a great group. Thank you to all the Masons. The Masons will be serving pancakes, sausage, bacon and other things at the senior citizen center on Saturday, November 13th. Come on down for breakfast. Those that delivered our meals on wheels last week were D’Von Poulson and Susan Shrader, Mary Brown and Sharon Barnes, Brenda and Curt Stein, Pat Brewer, and Vernon Brickman. Thank you to all these great people for their help getting the meals out for us. We really appreciate it. We received several donations last week in memory of some that had passed on. Charles Messer, representing the class of 1954, made a donation in memory of Mina Green. Donations received in memory of Frank Strack were from Basil and Dana Taylor, Lonnie Rickey, Richard and Sandra Hightower, Larry Major, and Mary May. We are very appreciative of all these donations. Thank you all. We had some in to quilt last week. Were glad to know that. They were Naida Kerr, Judy Curtin, and Estalene Teply. Thanks ladies! Here’s our menu for the next few days. It’s a little different than usual. Call us before noon to pick up a meal. Call before 10 for a meal to be delivered.

Ferguson Features

A couple came from Elk City Saturday. I asked them what brought them to Watonga and he said this did pointing around the parlor. They were checking out places to bring their grandkids next summer. He said they loved looking at old homes. I explained about the restoration going on. I asked them if they knew anything about T.B. Ferguson and she said just what they read on our website. So they got the whole spiel on the history. It is such a pleasure to tell people about the history and see the expressions on their faces showing they are interested. Discussing topics such as the herd law, or telling how there was no deficit spending while T.B. was governor and how Governor Ferguson went to the St. Louis World Fair promoting Oklahoma Territory to become a state. Plus the first issue of the Watonga Republican newspaper was printed October 12, 1892, and is still the weekly paper in Watonga.

Eagles Miss Playoffs After 52-12 Loss to Hinton

WATONGA – Despite their one-point loss to OCA the week before, the Watonga Eagles entered last Thursday’s matchup with a chance to win and make the playoffs. Unfortunately, Watonga’s final game was decided by a lot more than a single point, as untimely turnovers and a struggling rush defense gave the game to the visiting Hinton Comets, 52-12, on Senior Night.

Gardening Tips for Nov.

As plants in the landscape go dormant or are killed off by colder temperatures, it is a good time to do some fall cleaning in the landscape. Leaves falling from trees are a good source of mulch and compost.

Dear Oklahoma Friends and Neighbors:

It is finally fall - my favorite season. All the kids in costumes this weekend, the fall weather, the homecoming events, it’s a great time of the year. I pray you enjoy in the days ahead as we prepare for Thanksgiving and Christmas when so many families look forward to being together again.
