Members of Watonga’s law enforcement and first responder community gathered with their families Saturday at the Roman Nose General Store for an unusual, but well-deserved, retirement party. Mate, the 9-year-old German Shepherd handled by Watonga Police Chief Shawn Kays, is retiring from the force.

Watonga Cheese Festival Seeks Submissions for T-Shirt

Like many events, the 2020 edition of the Watonga Cheese Festival was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. But the festival is returning this October, and organizers are already beginning the exciting buildup with a contest to see who will design this year’s official festival T-shirt.

It’s been a busy few weeks, but this past week was especially long as we spent our time hearing and debating the remaining House bills eligible for our consideration on the Senate floor. We had to take action on these bills by Thursday, April 22 for them to continue in the process to become law.

10-Digit Dialing Now Mandatory

Oklahomans with 405 area codes now need to include that code while dialing other local numbers. As of Saturday, April 24, mandatory 10-digit dialing has begun for customers of the 405 area code, which includes portions of Blaine County, including Geary.

Watonga Girls Dominate Home Track Meet Saturday

The Watonga Lady Eagles’ run of excellence continued Saturday on their home track, as they easily won the meet with the best team score on the day and carried several events, as well. The girls as usual dominated the relay events, winning the 800m, 1600m and 3200m relays.
