On Monday, the Blaine County Commission issued a burn ban. It prohibits open fires, with a few exceptions.
Road construction equipment with controlled burn attachments – usually propane – are permitted, as are welding/cutting and grinding activities taking place on a welding blanket, on a non-combustible surface at least 10 feet by 10 feet, with a watcher on low wind days.
No outdoor campfires or cooking is allowed except for charcoal or gas grills on a non-flammable surface located five or more feet from vegetation.
Fireworks are strictly forbidden until the burn ban is lifted.
Smokers should use extreme caution when disposing of their extinguished cigarettes or cigars. Conviction of violating the ban carries a fine and possible jail time.
