It was a short week at the Watonga Senior Citizens Center this past week, being closed on Monday, Labor Day. Now things will be in full swing until Thanksgiving in November. Next month, on the second weekend of October, the 9th and 10th, we will participate in the 50th Watonga Cheese Festival! The Center will serve lunch on Friday, October 9, from 11 am to 1 pm, at the regular lunch price of $8. We will be serving Chicken and Noodles! Start the Cheese Festival with a lunch with us and then move on to food trucks.

If you are a paid member of the Center (annual dues of $15) and you have a birthday in September, you get a FREE lunch on Friday, September 25! Any paid member gets a free meal on the Friday of their birth month. We eat each day, except Wednesday when the Kiwanis Club meets, from 11 am to 12:30 pm. On Wednesdays, we eat from 11 am to 12 noon. Call any morning before 10 am for home delivery, Our meals are $8 and that is a bargain.
Meals were delivered last week by Janice Hood, Brenda Stein, Sharon Barnes and Vernon Brickman. We are grateful for their volunteering to assist us. Speaking of volunteering to assist us, we have helpers each day to answer the phone, help prepare meals for delivery, take money from walk-ins for lunch and help with cleanup. If you are interested in volunteering 4 to 5 hours once a week to assist us, please let us know.
Louise Cooper and Estalene Teply were our quilters this past week. We received a donation from Becky Ake. Thanks to her for thinking of us.
The first day of fall is September 22. It does NOT feel like fall is coming anytime soon. Despite the official start date of fall, we are complaining about the high temperatures; summer weather is definitely overstaying its welcome! Come join us at the Center, where it is cool!
