When the Geary School Board met in regular session April 6, it was in the Stegall Long Field House instead of the high school library to allow more social distancing in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Superintendent Todd Glasgow noted the Baby Bison Ranch ended its year with nine students enrolled. The early closure was in keeping with statewide closure of schools. He also pointed out that the ACT Aspire test was given at the high school in late February and early March and Beta Club went to the state convention in early March, returning with six championships.
The board passed the consent agenda, which included granting emergency powers to the superintendent, changing the school calendar and ensure employee pay. The board also accepted Britton, Kuykendall and Miller as its auditing firm for the audit year ending June 30, 2019 and asked it to prepare the 2020-21 estimate of needs for the school district.
The board entered into executive session to discuss personnel matters and emerged to accept the resignation of high school principal Kurt Myers and to rehire elementary school principal Sean Buchanan for the upcoming school year. Glasgow went over the
Glasgow went over the work the cafeteria staff is doing as far as disinfecting and cleaning the cafeteria areas while still getting out 200 breakfasts and 200 lunches each weekday. He also said no decisions have been made about graduation and other end of year functions. Graduation had been scheduled for May 16.
