Late last week, three Watonga High School senior basketball standouts were selected to the 2020 Class 2A Small School West All-Star Basketball Team.

Seniors Cacie Gorman and Emma Hussey represented the Lady Eagles on the girls’ allstar squad, while Eagles senior standout Elijah Kearney was selected to the boys’ all-star team.

East and West Squads for all classes (B, A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A) were selected last week by the Oklahoma Coaches Association.

Joining Gorman and Hussey on the Class 2A girls’ small school west all-star team was Raychel Stanfield of Luther High School, Kaitin Taylor of Cashion High School, Taylor Gilchrist of Fairview High School, Linda Ramnarine of Carnegie High School, Laney Anderson of Stratford High School, Hadli Shelby of Mangum High School, Madison Rollins of Hollis High School, and Rollins’ teammate Harley Whisenant of Hollis.

In addition to Kearney, the Class 2A boys’ small school west all-star team was composed of Jerod Kerr of Hooker High School, Kerr’s teammate Mason Stalder of Hooker, Jacob Woody of Cashion High School, Woody’s teammate Alex Navabi of Cashion, Max Morrison of Minco High School, Morrison’s teammate Dane Brummell of Minco, Skylar Croskey of Amber-Pocasset High School, Tyler Toyekoyah of Carnegie High School, Weston Church of Fairview High School, and Tyler Toth of Oklahoma Christian Academy.

Gorman, who is committed to playing college basketball starting next season for the University of Arkansas Fort Smith Lady Lions, was a standout for the Lady Eagles with her strong play in the paint and excellent rebounding ability in the post. Hussey was a threat to score at any time for Watonga this season, especially with her sharpshooting from behind the arc.

Kearney was an outstanding player for the Eagles whose explosiveness on offense allowed for him to take over games.

As far as current Watonga High School sports and what the OSSAA announces regarding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, more updates regarding Eagles’ and Lady Eagles’ varsity athletics will come in future issues of the Watonga Republican.
