Watonga Public Schools athletics for Lady Eagles’ girls’ high school and junior high were dealt a setback this week when the school broke the news of a female student potentially exposed to the coronavirus.

“There has been a possible indirect exposure to COVID-19,” Watonga Public Schools announced late Monday night on their official Facebook page. “Just to be safe, the administration and coaching staff have agreed to postpone cheer tryouts and summer pride for all girls until further notice.”

Originally, Watonga was scheduled to host practices from 7-10 a.m. on June 23-25 for students who wish to make the cheerleading squad for the upcoming 2020- 21 calendar school year.

The actual cheer tryout was supposed to be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 27 but will be rescheduled once the school gives proper clearance.

So as of right now, all of the girls’ athletic activities with Summer Pride strength and conditioning training that are preparing for the upcoming 2020 fall sports seasons are postponed for the time being.
