Wood is a single mom who has been a member of the Geary community for more than 20 years. She graduated from Geary High School in 2003.
She has three boys who all participate in sports. Wood enjoys watching her kids participate in sports, spending a day in the park, or staying in and watching a movie.
She was appointed as the Geary city clerk in May of 2019.
“I love this job and the people that I get to work with every day,” Wood said.
Why are you running for city clerk/treasurer? What are things you hope to accomplish if elected?
I became aware that Mary Hays was going to retire while I was working/coaching at Geary JH/HS.
The City Clerk job seemed like a great fit for my family. I have always been a person who wants to help others and serve my community. This job is a perfect combination of both!
This job is a perfect combination of both!
I want City Hall to continue to be a friendly and approachable part of our city. There are opportunities for our town to grow and prosper.
I want to be a part of bringing more businesses and housing to the area.
We have already worked with a realty company to safely reopen the apartments on the east side of town, and this will have a huge impact on resident housing!
I have worked with several members of our community that are currently owning/operating or are in the process of opening new businesses.
These new businesses will provide jobs to local residents and also increase our city sales tax revenue.
I want to continue to work with other agencies to repair/replace our city’s infrastructure. We are currently working on town wide gas line replacement, and are looking into how we can upgrade our city’s electrical system.
What particular experiences or skills have prepared you to serve as the city clerk/treasurer?
I have served as the Geary City Clerk for almost two years, and I have learned so much.
I have worked closely with local and state agencies to ensure that our city runs as efficiently and effectively as possible.
I work daily with the public, and I feel that my attitude and my ability to listen to each customer and resident and honestly listen to their concerns, is one of my greatest assets.
Each person in our community deserves to be treated with the same respect and interest.
How do you plan to keep residents informed on the happenings of official city meetings and/or changes?
The city has a public Facebook page that we try to utilize as much as we can to get pertinent information out on.
We also have a city website that we try to keep as updated as possible.
Our office is open to any and all questions at any time, and I work hard to get the right answers for everyone.
If elected, what are some steps you would take to get the city on a firmer financial footing?
I want to see us work harder at recruiting more business to move to Geary.
Over the last year and a half that I have worked for the City of Geary, I have seen five new businesses come to town. That is huge for our community’s financial stability. We have two more businesses in the works as well.
Housing is a major need here. We have worked to get the Grand Valley apartments back up and safely running.
Geary’s history is amazing. I want to work closely with the Mayor and the Department of Tourism to bring more people to our town.
I feel like a boost in tourism and our history with Jesse Chisholm, Chief Lefthand, and Route 66 can have a huge impact on our finances.
Tourism, more residents, and more businesses in town are our best ways to boost our city’s revenue.
What are some of your favorite things about the town?
The people, hands down, are my favorite thing about living in Geary.
I have lived in places such as Oregon and Texas and the people don’t begin to compare.
Geary isn’t about the flash and fancy, but the community that we have is by far my favorite!
The way our community comes together to keep the Tri-County Fair, supporting our school system and anyone in need is amazing! I have found myself in the position to need help from my
I have found myself in the position to need help from my community as a single mother and they have always come through, without being asked.
The people here are such a blessing to mine and my children’s lives.
Geary has such a diverse community, people from all walks of life! I love that I get to raise my children in a place where they have the opportunity to learn about different cultures, careers and lifestyles.
Geary has such a rich history! I am always learning new things and am always intrigued when I hear something new.
I left Geary after I graduated high school, looking for my place in the world. After going down many paths and deciding that they weren’t for me, I came home.
I wanted to raise my kids in a town where I knew they were safe, loved, and supported. I wasn’t born here, but it is definitely my HOME!
Why should you be elected to be city clerk/treasurer?
I want the continued opportunity to make our town a better place. Working at City Hall, I get to see where the improvements need to be made, first-hand.
Every decision that I have made in this office has been for the betterment of the city.
I am far from perfect and there are many things that I am learning on this journey, but I feel like I am a great asset to this position.
I believe that it is possible to keep our small town feel and still grow. I want to help bring more businesses to town, more housing and a great relationship with our city government and our residents.
