Having a history in playing baseball, the second baseman for the Geary Bison’s Keaton Akridge is ready to start back up again.
Getting his start in sixth grade under Coach Evans, Akridge started as a catcher saying that he used to be good at it and could “hold it down.”
These days, Akridge takes the role of the second baseman and believes he’s been doing what he can to contribute to the team.
While officially the second baseman for the team, Akridge’s favorite part of the season thus far has been getting back to his roots and getting practice on his catching.
However, the most standout thing for Akridge to happen this season so far has been finally having a full bench of players.
While COVID has had its effects on a few sporting events this year and even canceled entire seasons last year, Akridge keeps a hopeful perspective saying that “it won’t affect much besides cancellations.”
Looking ahead to the season as a whole, Akridge neither sees it going well or bad, he simply sees it going “like every year.”
Despite the sentiment, Akridge has set up a goal for himself and a goal that he believes the team is striving for.
For Akridge, he hopes to improve himself throughout the season and ultimately come out being better than he was last season. For his team, simply winning a game seems to be the goal.
Akridge has one thing to inspire him in accomplishing the goal he’s set up for himself. He said he draws most of his inspiration from bettering himself each day and trying to be the best that he can be.
With this, Akridge comes off as a hardworking individual and this rings true with him spending most of his free time working and saying that he’d rather be working instead of balancing school and sports.
However, Akridge is ready for the season and is glad to have their coach there to guide them along the way.
“[I] want to thank Coach M for stepping up and coaching us this year, and under him, we should get a couple more wins than last year.”
