Fifth-grader Dallas Mata of Watonga Elementary school was one of the students chosen to be WES’s outstanding student of the semester.
From his love for science to getting to make friends, Mata lets us know exactly why he was chosen to be one of the outstanding students.
Mata has described his current school year as being really good, and despite all of the virtual learning he’s had to do, he still finds it enjoyable for other reasons.
“Virtual is good,” Mata said eagerly. “We kind of get to just be lazy, lay down, and just do work.”
During his time in school, Mata made it clear that science has easily been his favorite subject so far because of all of the experiments they have gotten to do.
However, while his favorite subject is science, Mata’s love for school comes from a much broader source.
“My favorite thing about school has been that I get to make friends and learn a lot of stuff,” Mata said.
Looking ahead for the remainder of the school year, Mata made it clear that he was ready for the year to be over, but not for the reason you may think.
“I’m ready to finally actually be able to go to middle school,” Mata said. “I’m looking forward to really just doing a lot of science stuff and learning more math.”
Mata said his love for both science and math comes from the fact that he gets to “like them in his own way,” and while he’s excited to start up middle school, he said he’s equally as excited to take a break during summer vacation.
When Mata isn’t in school enjoying what it has to offer, he likes to watch TV, read his books, or just play some games.
Mata was even able to combine his enjoyment of reading and playing games by buying a Pokémon-related book during his time at the book fair — a book fair that he was very excited for as he said he had already bought five other books that week.
