A large swimming pool at Roman Nose State Park that dates back to the Rooseveltera Civilian Conservation Corps is now open again, with new upgrades, after being closed throughout 2020.
The pool will be open every Wednesday through Sunday from 12 to 7 p.m. through Labor Day, park officials said.
Roman Nose park manager Levi Garrett told the Watonga Republican the pool was remodeled about a decade ago and had more upgrades performed before reopening this year. “But there is still CCC rock down in the deep end where the slide is, and the rock climbing wall is.”
Garrett said the most recent improvements includedfixing cracks, replumbing, a new chlorinator, new lights, and more.
“Last year,” he said, “the reason it wasn’t open was because we were losing a lot of water every day. Come to find out, it was an altitude valve. They closed that off and now it holds water, and that was a big deal.”
The park also renovated the bathrooms next to the pool.
Admission to Roman Nose State Park is free, but pool admission is $6 for adults ages 13-62, $5 for children, and $3.50 for seniors. Children ages 2 and under are free; admission is cash only, Garrett said.
The pool is located near the Three Springs day use area in the park. It has a capacity of 390 swimmers.
