WATONGA – After the success of December’s “Shenanigans at the North Pole,” Watonga Community Theatre is back this weekend with two performances of “The Villain Wore a Dirty Shirt,” featuring a cast full of high-schoolers.
The performances will be this Sunday, March 6, at 2:30 and 6 p.m. at the historic Liberty Theater.
Kim Coney is the director of “The Villain Wore a Dirty Shirt.” “We are so excited to have the students back in the theatre,” Coney said in a press release. “They missed the opportunity to be on stage last year, and we are thrilled to make it happen in 2022.”
The last time an all-high school cast appeared at Watonga Community Theatre was March 2020, the release says.
“The Villain Wore a Dirty Shirt” is a family-friendly comedy set in the mining town of Digalittledeeper, where con artist Phineas Flatworm “has his eye on the Tub and Scrub laundry business,” the release says.
After other laundry businesses burn, Sheriff Jack B. Nimble and Sweet Sally team up to bring the villain to justice, and the “fighting is guaranteed to get dirty.”
“The Villain Wore a Dirty Shirt” stars Joseph Kalicki as Phineas, Cale Lorenz as the sheriff and Calista Riley as Sweet Sally.
Other cast members include Haylee Roberts, Kaylee Roberts, Adalyn Hightower, Julien Roman Nose, Brystal Freschly, Ernesto Duenez, Callie Edsall, Shelby Miller and Landri Hussey. New to the Watonga stage will be cast members Piper Gallagher, Kale Smith, Lola Lester and Nicholas Walker.
“We’ve had a lot of challenges with schedules and inclement weather throughout this process,” Coney said, “but these students are determined to make it happen.”
To get tickets to the show, the Watonga Community Theatre box office will be open to members only on Friday, March 4 from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Then on Saturday, it will be open to the general public from 9 a.m. to noon.
On show day, the box office will be open from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and again from 3:45 to 6 p.m.
“The Villain Wore a Dirty Shirt” was written by Tim Kelly. Miles Clewell is on lights and sound and Rita Clewell serves as stage crew, with Amy Adams on piano.
