A Bubble Off Plumb

It has been a crazy busy couple of days. There was stock show Saturday and Sunday and Tuesday features the Methodist pancake supper, city council meeting and the premium auction fundraiser for the stock show participants.

That doesn’t include the Monday meeting of the quilt guild and the Watonga Foundation and the Monday county commission meeting. Now, I have to confess I bagged the quilt guild. I’m not young any more and the fire in my gut is as likely to be heartburn as it is to be a yearning to gather and present the facts to you, the readers.

But I did have a come-to-Jesus moment this weekend. I recommitted myself to due diligence. By that I mean I will work harder to examine all the angles of an issue, learn and present the ins and outs of a situation. Sometimes in the hurry to make deadline and write and layout the paper and have a life, I have been guilty of taking the path of least resistance. Instead of digging, I accept the word of a source at face value.

But I hereby commit myself to looking harder, farther, for the story behind the story, for the motives and motivation of those involved. That doesn’t mean I am going to turn into one of those talk-show divas, spreading ill will and gossip in the name of news. I don’t intend to be mean or nasty and trash anyone I can.

But I will seek more parts of the story, look for other angles, use different and diverse sources.

Please bear with us as we have some growing pains going on at the moment and some weeks get pretty rocky as our skeleton crew gets stretched very thin. And if we mess up, call us out on it. That’s your job. Ours is to shake off mistakes and hit the pavement hard again the next week to fill the pages of your newspaper. Thank you for your patience.
