SENIOR CENTER NEWS

Hi, everyone! I’m going to try to write the news while watching the storm coverage on Channel 9. It’s been a long afternoon of weather. Thankfully, it looks like it has gone south of Watonga. I would have liked to see a little more rain but we sure don’t want the storms.

I hope you’ve all had a good week. Mine was busy with doctor appointments and last Monday I got to be present for the birth of our first great-grandchild. A beautiful baby girl. IT was a tough birth, she weighed in at 8 pounds, 3 ounces. A headful of hair. It was such a blessing to be with my granddaughter during labor and delivery.

This week will be full with another doctor’s appointment, MRI and our youngest granddaughter’s high school graduation.

Don’t forget the breakfast fly in at the airport on Saturday, May 25, beginning at 8 a.m. Come out and visit with the pilots and have breakfast. It’s free as long as it lasts.

Saturday night May 25 we will meet again for music, food and games. We start at 6 p.m. and go until about 9. If you would like to join us, bring a covered dish to share with others. We’ll have a good time.

Monday, May 27 the Senior Center will be closed for Memorial Day. I understand there will be some planned get togethers for Watonga alumni that weekend, but I don’t have any details.

There’s a beautiful new quilt hanging at the center, with gorgeous big butterflies on it. Come by and take a look at it, it is so pretty. I just found out it was made and quilted by Judy Curtin.

I’m told they don’t have another quilt ready to put in the frame. Velma Gould has a quilt for them to work on next.

Last week, Loretta Grove brought in Best Choice labels and Phyllis Hightower brought in beef liver. The Masons gave a donation from the breakfast they held during Bikes and BBQ weekend. We are so appreciative of all the donations we receive. Thanks to everyone for thinking of us.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Swaim donated in memory of John Paul Ridenhour. Thank you to the Swaims for this gift.

Last week our Meals on Wheels were delivered by Hailey Boden, Sharon Barnes, Janice Hood, Brenda Stein and Vernon Brickman. We are so thankful for all of them.

If you need a meal delivered, call us before 10 a.m. and if you plan to pick one up to go, call us before 12:30 p.m.

We have biscuits and gravy on Thursday mornings starting at 8 a.m. Come in and eat with us or get one to go. It’s for a donation only.

Here is our menu for the next few days: Thursday, May 23 – Meatloaf Friday – Chicken fried steak Monday – Closed for Memorial Day Tuesday – Chicken strips Wednesday – Kiwanis meets at noon, we eat at 11 a.m.

Thursday, May 30 – Ham and beans Friday – Roast beef birthday dinner. Members with a May birthday eat free!

Don’t forget Friday, May 31 and Saturday June 1 is the Watonga citywide yard sale. There’ll be lots of goodies out there waiting for you.

I pray that you all have a good week. I hope I’ll have more news next week. Take care. Stay safe. ’Til next week …
