Heated Holidays

Oh my gosh! As I write this Memorial Day is a distant memory and I'm left wondering where the entire month disappeared to. No sooner had I hunkered down in my house away from the heat than I discovered Independence Day is just a couple of days away. I'm getting further behind on everything I need to do before then. It's hard to keep up with the hustle of numerous birthdays and holidays in the summer heat.

Many friends and family will be coming a fair distance to help us celebrate and there's so much to do. My house never seems clean enough. I hate dusting or mopping or anything even closely resembling housework, but I'm forced to do it anyway. Why couldn't I have been blessed with a live-in maid?

On top of all the usual festivities, we’re also preparing to throw a baby shower for my sister's oldest granddaughter. This will be her first great grandbaby. Believe it or not, I managed to purchase gifts for the baby over a month ago from mama's wish list and have them wrapped and ready to go. I even had some leftover baby girl wrapping paper in my craft closet. Can you believe I remembered I had some and managed to find it? This is not common for the Queen of Procrastination. Miracles do happen, y'all.

As if I weren't busy enough getting ready for the 4th and the baby shower, I got a wild hair and decided to drag all my quilting stuff out of the closet. I found about half a dozen lap-size quilt tops I'd made a few years ago and abandoned. I should not go in there as it rarely ends well for me. I tend to get a serious case of Delusions of Competence. I remembered seeing a post on Facebook about a new quilting group a lady near me was thinking of forming. I figured this would be just the push I'd need to get some of the tops made into actual quilts so off I went.

Now I have my entire dining room table covered with all my quilting paraphernalia: fabric, cutting mats, sewing machine, several sizes of scissors, etc. The pile on and around the table seems to be getting bigger and a bit overwhelming. I don't know if I'll clean it all up before our friends arrive or just leave it all out. We usually spend all our time shopping, visiting, and eating out so why bother? They know what my house looks like, and we won't be here much since we'll be at my sister's. Did I mention that all the festivities and most of the company will be camping at her house? She's the social butterfly of the family. I'm barely social.

I hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July.
