The Watonga varsity defeated the Dover Longhorns 8-1 on Saturday thanks in part to five runs in the first inning. An error scored one run, Wade Manke doubled, scoring two runs, Tyshon Wilson singled, scoring one run, and Karston Allen singled, scoring one run.
The Eagles added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Zac Diaz doubled down the left field line, Talen Smith walked, and Watonga scored on a wild pitch, each scoring one run. Cooper House led things off on the bump for Watonga. The pitcher gave up three hits and one run (zero earned) over four innings, striking out six and walking four.
Bryce Cockayne began the game for the Dover Longhorns. The right-handed pitcher surrendered six hits and five runs (zero earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking one.
Watonga tallied 10 hits in the game. Diaz, Manke, and Allen each collected two hits for the Eagles. Manke led Watonga with two RBIs. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day.
Watonga was surehanded in the field and didn't commit a single error. Manke had the most chances in the field with seven. Brennan Fletcher, Ivan Ruiz, and Emanuel Barcenas each collected one hit for Dover.
The Watonga Varsity Eagles will travel to Thomas-Fay-Custer for a game on Monday.
