A Bubble Off Plumb

I thought when the kids grew up and moved away, they would stop doing cute things to write about.

But a few weeks ago, the Redheaded girl made headlines, and I didn’t even write them.

You see she has been with a pretty nice fella who is good at a lot of different things. He likes to fly, and by that, I mean he is a pilot and has an airplane. She’s learning to fly, too.

When she is at work – she runs a coffee shop and has at least two other side hustles – she keeps tabs on her significant other via a mapping app that shows flight patterns as kind of a safety precaution.

One morning a few weeks ago, she must have thought he was flying blind – or blind drunk! The pattern was all over the place. Up down, around and around, until it began to spell out a message.

Will. You. Marry. Me. Taylor. In cursive. With an airplane.

And he managed to do it without getting airsick.

What he – and the Redheaded girl – didn’t anticipate was the whole thing going viral. First, the Wichita news picked it up. They live near Pratt, Kansas, so that kind of made sense.

But after that, it just kept going. Social media, Fox News, People Magazine, and news outlet from Australia, Great Britain and New Zealand all contacted them for quotes for their own stories.

Which is pretty cool, when you think about it. Maybe not as awesome as the proposal, but still.

The kids are pretty awesome even outside the viral proposal. They started flying together because of dogs. The Redheaded girl is the one who poached our puppy a while back. But she has been involved in dog rescues for quite a while, finding prospective pet parents for local pound dogs, then flying the pooch to the people, usually regionally. Sometimes they transport a few dogs to an area where there are more adopters than dogs available, so they share the wealth.

And when you think about the opinion a lot of people have about kids in their 30s, that makes this pair stand out, even without a viral proposal.

Luckily, she said yes. It would have been a shame to go to all that trouble for nothing. As to the wedding date? It has already been set for “one day.”
