SENIOR CENTER NEWS

By Brenda Stein

Here we are in mid- November and firmly into fall! Have you seen some of the trees around town in beautiful shades of yellow and red? Quite a sight! Fall football season is ending and basketball is just beginning; Black Friday ads are already available; turkeys being purchased; Thanksgiving is around the corner. I found this quote to be accurate for me — “November is the month when the leaves fall and so does my motivation to exercise.” It is hard to get up on cool mornings and come to the center at 9 a.m. to exercise on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but when I arrive and see others ready to exercise, I do feel energized. Come join us and see for yourself. Come dine with us Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., each day except Wednesday. That day, when Kiwanis meets, we dine from 11 a.m. to noon. You do not have to be a senior citizen to eat with us. We enjoy serving all ages. Also, call any morning before 10 for home delivery.

Also, you do not have to have home delivery each day. Look at our menu, check your schedule, and eat with us whenever you can. Our delivery people are willing and able to bring a delicious meal when you need, or want, one. Last week our meals were delivered by: Susan Shrader, Connie George, Sharon Barnes, Brenda Stein, Janice Hood and Vernon Brickman. Our upcoming menu is: Thursday, Nov. 13 Goulash Friday Baked Ham Monday Chili or Vegetable Soup Tuesday Chicken Fried Steak Wednesday R o a s t Pork (Kiwanis Meets) Thursday, Nov. 20 Liver and Onions Friday Fried Chicken (Birthday Dinner) Our lone quilter again this week was Louise Cooper. Thanks to her for her willingness to share her creativity. Here at the center, we collect Best Choice food labels, the part of the label with the scanner code. When we collect a substantial number, we redeem them for cash. If you have any at home, or if you will start saving them, we appreciate it.

Just bring them to us and we will do the rest! On Friday, Nov. 21, the nurses from Mercy Hospital Watonga will come and check our blood pressure and glucose level. They arrive about 9:45 a.m.. This is a free service and welcome since we all need to keep healthy, especially this time of the year. On Saturday, Nov. 22, we will host our Fun and Games Night from 6- 9 p.m. Bring a snack to share, and play cards, dominoes, pool and listen to live music. As I said before, you do not have to be a senior citizen to enjoy the Watonga Senior Citizens Center. We do not discriminate against younger people! Come join us and see how we enjoy life!
