Curtis Richard Merkey

Curtis Richard Merkey was born on November 8, 1934 in Hinton, OK to Ernest Reno and Lillian Margaret (Betche) Merkey. He passed away on June 8, 2023 in Bedford, TX at the age of 88. Curtis grew up in Hinton, OK and graduated from Hinton High School. He enlisted in the US Air Force serving from 1954-1957 and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He worked for the FAA as an electronics technician. He was always a fan of electronics and passed on his love of computers to his grandchildren, teaching them all about it, quite often at Christmas getting them the latest upgrade. He was the best grandfather ever and really loved helping his son-in-law, Michael, raise the children. Curtis was an avid genealogist, spending countless hours tracing the family history. He will be missed by all those who loved him so much.

Survivors include: his daughter, Dru Merkey-Thorstad of Honolulu, HI, and his son, Jeffery Vernon Merkey, his grandchildren: Brendon Thorstad and wife Erica of Stanwood, WA, Shea Thorstad and wife Ashleigh of Albany, OR, and Bryce Thorstad and wife Kristen of Lynwood, WA, his five great grandchildren, his good friend, Michael Thorstad of Castle Rock, CO, and his longtime friend, Margaret Metts of Hurst, TX, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lillian Merkey, his siblings, Beulah Garrett, Bernice Smith, Carl Merkey and Chester Merkey.
