Darrell ‘Butch’ Arthur Boucher Jr.

Darrell ‘Butch’ Arthur Boucher Jr. was born on November 3, 1944 in Conway, Arkansas to Darrell Sr. and Thora (Edgeman) Boucher. He departed this life on Monday, June 13th in Woodward, Oklahoma.

Darrell (Butch) grew up with his brothers Skip and Roger, on the family farm outside of Oakwood, Oklahoma. He graduated from Oakwood High School in 1963 before attending Oklahoma State University. While in college, Darrell met the love of his life, Zandra Chain, and in December of 1966, they married. After graduation, he entered the Army where he served for three years. After a tour in Vietnam, Darrell received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam service Medal, Vietnam campaign Medal w/60 Device, Two Overseas Bars and the Army Commendation Medal. He finished his career with the Army as a member of the US Army Reserve.

After the military, Darrell and Zandra moved to Oklahoma City where they began their family with the birth of their first child, Michelle. Afterwards, they moved to Oakwood where Darrell worked for the oil company and they welcomed their second daughter, Maegan.

In 1987, the family moved to Woodward, Oklahoma where Darrell began teaching at the High Plains Vo-Tech. While holding this position, he attended night classes at OSU to obtain his Master’s Degree. After leaving the teaching profession, Darrell began working at the Mooreland Airport. This job allowed him to explore and be a part of something he always had a passion for - flying. He didn’t just buy an airplane. He wanted to build one - so he did. He bought a kit and spent countless enjoyable hours building his own plane.

Afterwards, he and Zandra retired to Woodward, where Darrell kept busy with many little jobs around their house. He was an avid supporter of Veterans and the military and he was proud to have served his country. He loved spending time working on his airplane, tinkering with things around the house, and working outside. He could take anything apart and put it back together - typically better than before. Darrell loved to joke and give people a hard time - he loved to laugh, and his laugh was the best. Darrell loved having coffee with his friends, his cat Ty, speaking the word of God to anyone who would listen, bragging about his daughters and their accomplishments, but most importantly, he loved Zandra. This coming December he and Zandra would have celebrated 56 years of marriage. They broke the mold when they made him; a man among men.

Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Skip Boucher, and in-laws O.E. and Ella Mae Chain. He is survived by his wife Zandra, daughter Michelle (Boucher) and son-in-law Bj Smith and grandchildren Dillon and Elle of Kansas City, KS; daughter Maegan Boucher and grandson Jake of Austin, Texas; brother Roger (and Terri) Boucher of Oakwood, Oklahoma; stepmother Evelyn Boucher of Enid, Oklahoma, step sister Linda (and Cecil) Smith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, step-brother Cary (and Teri) Burghardt, of Enid, Oklahoma; brother-in-law Gale (and Marie) Chain of Derby, Kansas, and sister-in-law Arlene (and Phil) Maddux of Deerfield, KS, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 18th, 2022 at the Canton First Baptist Church with Chaplain Danny Cavett officiating. Interment with Military honors will follow at the Canton Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton. Condolences may be made at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
