In Loving Memory...

Fred R. Lucas, Jr. was born on March 16, 1940, to Fred Raymond and Osia Fay Thomas Lucas. He passed away July 17, 2023, at the age of 83.

Fred graduated from Woodward High School, attended Phillips University, OU, and graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry and orthodontics in Watonga for 49 years; he associated with S.M. Barrett in Watonga from 1965 to May 1968, after which he set-up his own practice in 1968 and had that until 2014, when he retired.

Fred taught at the University of Oklahoma in the Endo Department. He lectured to the Junior/Senior class from 1975-1985, the ODA midyear meeting in 1991, the ODA meeting in 1980, 1984, 1987, the Baylor College of Dentistry senior class of 1983, and presented a program to the OU Hygiene Students in 1993.

Fred was also the director at First State Bank as well as being on the loan committee. He did restoration work to the Noble House Bed & Breakfast, the Presbyterian Church, Temptation building, and Veatch Drug store building. He was a member of the Watonga Chamber of Commerce, serving as president in 1968, 1981, and 1987, chairman of the Rat Race for the Watonga Cheese Festival. He was a member of the Watonga Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He was also a member of the Lion’s Club, and of the Watonga Main Street Program. In 1985, he was named Boss of the Year, and then Citizen of the Year in 1992. Since moving to OKC, we have joined the Crown Height Christian Church.

He was Chairman Sub Council on Insurance of the OK Dental Association, Past President of the N.W. District Dental Association, Past Member of House of Delegates, Past Board Member of the OK Dental Foundation, Member of the Board of Governors of Registered Dentists, Member of the American Orthodontic Society, Member of American Academy of Dental Practice Administration, he started the Cimarron Study Club, and was a member of the International College of Dentistry, and was an Alumni of L.D. Pankey Institute.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Gail Goff Lucas of the home in Oklahoma City, OK. His son, Fred Raymond Lucas III (Trey) and wife, Stacey Gentry Lucas have two daughters, Leighellen Grace and Carsen Gail Lucas and live in Decatur, GA. One brother, Dr. Wesley Lucas, and wife Patsy, of OKC.

Fred was a caring husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed by our family and many friends.

Funeral service was held Friday, July 21, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Watonga Christian Church, with Pastor Adam Lovitt and Pastor Aaron Krueger officiating. A reception was held immediately following the service, and the family invited everyone to stay, eat, and mingle.

Memorials can be given to Ferguson Chapel, Ferguson Museum or Cancer Research.
