In Loving Memory...

George Gilbert Beckloff was born at the home in Hitchcock, Oklahoma on November 10, 1928. The second child of John Carl Beckloff and Florence Nancy Beckloff. While in Hitchcock they lived and farmed Beckloff family land located just to the east of the town of Hitchcock. The family was thrilled when in 1937 they were able to purchase, with the help of relatives, a farm near the town of Oakwood in Dewey County.

From the fourth grade George attended school in Oakwood. He remarked how in his classes he often found himself sitting beside another student in his class, Lahoma Baker, due to the teacher seating students in alphabetical order. Perhaps due to that or other factors after George and Lahoma graduated from Oakwood High School in 1946, George found himself staying in touch with Lahoma while working away from home and studying agriculture at Oklahoma A&M University in Stillwater.

George and Lahoma were married on March 18, 1949. In 1952 they were able to purchase a farm that adjoined his parents. They lived there and farmed until drought “starved them out.” George found employment in the oilfields of the Borger, Texas area where the family established a new home and eventually paid off the farm.

In 1965 they moved back to the farm with their family which had grown to include six children. Since that time George and Lahoma have remained on that farm, developed it, and raised their family. George and Lahoma cherished rural life and passed this on to their children.

George was committed to following Jesus Christ and was a student of the Bible. Sundays found him in a nearby church of Christ, often teaching a Sunday School class. His children will long remember their regular nightly devotions in the home that included Bible readings and prayer that all participated in.

On the evening of March 30, 2023, George passed away in the home cared for by his family with the compassionate assistance of nurses from Russell Murray Hospice. George is survived by his wife of 74 years, Lahoma, who lives in the home; children: Roger Beckloff, Kathy Westfall, Barbara and Jim Hudgens, Randy Beckloff, Ron and Becky Beckloff, Don and Becky Beckloff; fifteen grandchildren: Twyla and Jared Lucero, Joel Westfall, Violette and Brandon Harris, Travis and Tiffany Westfall, Mandy and Ryan Driskill, Drew and Kate Hudgens, Quinn and Dustin Rayner, Ben and Kendra Hudgens, Cherry and Josh Lunsford, Lacey and Ben Skelton, Brittany and Lance Sanchez, Preston Beckloff, Landon Beckloff, Kendall Beckloff, Caitlin Focht, and 31 great grandchildren.
